I've been crafty, I swear. I've put vinyl up on my walls, I've made decoration for my home (from scratch, NOT using my silhouette or cricut. I know, go me.) I've also painted furniture and my fireplace and a mirror I need to get hung! In addition to that I was chained to my sewing machine yesterday and made something called "mama cloth" (and if you're not familiar but don't want to be grossed out, don't look that up.) paper flowers, and I'm fixin' to make some more as soon as I can get the coffee filters tea-dyed. Yeah, I get the irony of that, why not just use coffee? Because tea gives me the antique look I'm looking for. But, I digress- I just haven't blogged about it. I know, I'm a horrible person.
I'm making the most of my almost-to-pushing-out-a-baby-but-not-quite-yet time.
Today, this is what I made and painted!
So, it's no secret that I'm countrifying/homesteading my house. Yes, I LOVE the old farmhouse look. I just like the down-home, comfy feeling I get from it. May not be your bag, and that's ok! Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. But here on the Wood homestead, I wanted something "comfy" and inviting.
So, those metallic stars that cost like $25+ a piece- we love 'em, right? Yeah, I do. I'm not about to pay $75 for 3 because- BUDGET! Hello, champagne tastes on a sweet tea budget. Sigh. What's a girl to do? OH yeah! Pinterest to the rescue! Yes, I'm in love and totally addicted to Pinterest.
You might call what we have is more than a fling, but less than an affair.
Anyway, back to the project.
You will need:
cereal boxes.(recycle those babies- you just need chipboard)
paint and brush.
hot glue and gun.
Now, disclaimer: This is NOT my pattern or idea. I DID, however, adapt this to smaller than the stars she made because I used hamburger helper boxes. (total health food, I know.) Basically, you're going to want a flexible(ish) chipboard.
I followed the blog directions here.
Once I cut them out and hot glued them all together, (5 points per star.) I painted them. The colors I used were:
Anita's All Purpose Acrylic in 11025 Rust Red
and Sherwin Williams Antique White. (It's a dupe of Annie Sloan's Old White) I got it in a sample size when Lowes had their .99 cents paint sample sale (Because I have furniture that is BEGGING to be chalk-painted!)
I took floral wire, and created a little hanger that I hot glued onto the back of the stars and they're attached to my walls with pushpins! Really, they're that light, it's chip board! It cost me practically NOTHING to do this project! I mean, I already had the paints for other projects, and my minions at the contents of the boxes, I just salvaged them from the recycle bin. The floral wire, I've had and hot glue costs what? $1.00? Yeah, this project for the three stars maybe cost me .50 cents to make? IDK. That's WAY better than $75 for some metal ones, IMO!
Seriously, I'm in love with how they look.

It's March 1st and it's National Craft Month! I'm so excited to be back. I am currently sitting at 9 1/2 months pregnant waiting for my LO to be born and I figured heck, why not utilize the time I'm home and make stuff, and prettify my house and...
Anyhoo, so that's where I've been. Gestating and dreaming pinterest dreams of grandeur.
This is what I decided to do above the photo in my living room.
God is a big part of my life, and having His word written on my home brings me comfort. :) This is part of Joshua 24:15. "As for me and my House, we will serve the Lord."
I designed this on my Silhouette.
For the main font, I used Andalus and for the Joshua 24:15, I used Dawning of a New Day. (You can get it at dafont.com for free! I LOVE getting free fonts to use. Pinterest is also a great place to find them that will easily cut out on your die cutter!)
This is what it looks like on my wall. I lined up the "House," with "we" and made it 4 feet long to go above my picture. I'm thinking I may do some flourishes above or below, or maybe both, IDK. What do you think?
yes, I have 13 ft high ceilings as that opening on the right is the door to my dining room. :) I LOVE this old house that I'm turning into MY house! (not just someone else's house we bought and live in.)
Ok, y'all. Baby pending- I'll see you tomorrow with another project!
